About Us

Minister

The minister of Ruchill Kelvinside Parish Church is the Rev. Mark Lowey, who has been in the post since November 2013.

Spiritual Leadership

The spiritual leadership of the church is the Kirk Session - a group of ordained Elders chaired by the Minister. The Session Clerk – Professor Roger Sturrock, organises the day to day business of the Session. The session meets five times a year. Professor Roger Sturrock is also our Reader who is attached to the church at Ruchill.

Matters concerning church property, finance and rotas etc. are dealt with by the Congregational Board which is made up of Elders and church members.

Pastoral Care at Ruchill

During his last days on earth, Jesus met with his disciples and explained how to look after the people around them. Talking to Peter, he said:

“Feed my lambs…Take care of my sheep…Feed my sheep.”

This is our basis for pastoral care in Ruchill Church.

'Lambs' and 'Sheep'

We see two groups of people for whom pastoral care is an issue. The ‘lambs’ are people who wouldn’t call themselves Christians, but who still need the love and care that Jesus offered throughout his life. Much of this work is fulfilled in the day to day life of the tearoom; in the activities of the youth family and adult work; and in the good relationships that the church maintains with people in the community.

The ‘sheep’ are the main body of the church: members of our wide, varied and very busy congregation. Much of the care for this group happens in the house groups that meet throughout the week, and during the fellowship time after our Sunday service.

We are currently reviewing and renewing our pastoral care scheme, so keep your eyes open for news. As we work through this, we keep in mind our aim, which is that we would strengthen (feed) and take care of people, and by better equipping them, bring glory to God.

“God has combined the members of the body…so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each another. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honoured, every part rejoices with it.”   1 Corinthians 12.24-5

Organisational Structure

The responsibility for the spiritual care of the parish lies with the Kirk session and comprises the Minister and ordained Elders who have been admitted as members of the session. There are currently 20 Elders in the Kirk session.
